1. When should our son or daughter start playing sports?

All children develop at different times. SJBAA offers instructional sports in baseball, basketball, soccer, and softball. These teams concentrate on the most fundamental skills necessary to play that sport. Games are for fun; no scores are kept; there are no winners or losers.

2. What ages / grades play in the instructional programs?

The instructional prorams are primarily for children 4 thru 7 (depending on the sport); grades Kintergarden thru second grade. See each of the instructional sport program pages using the naviagtion bar at the left.

3. What happens after 2nd grade?

After 2nd grade (approximately 7 years old) most children graduate to recreational sports teams. Recreational teams are opened to all children who register. Teams are formed acording to the league or association rules.

5. Should I consider playing my son or daughter up?

SJAA discourages parents from playing their son or daughter up. In fact, it is against our team formation policy and will only be permitted in special curcumstances.

6. What do I need to do if I would like to volunteer to be a coach of a team?

If you would like to coach or be an assistant coach for a team administered by SJBAA:

• You must watch the Archdiocese of Cincinnati video on child abuse
• You must submit yourself to a background check
• You are strongly encourage to be an active member in SJBAA by attending meetings held the third Thursday of each month
7. Are there any select teams?

SJBAA does allow for select teams to use the complex. In recent years there have been knothole and AABC baseball teams. These teams are formed by individual coaches.
